History
Our mission towards success began four years ago on the 3rd story of the main building of Baton Rouge Magnet High School. We started with only four members and our team has since grown and changed. Some original members keep coming back. Our team attends bi-weekly meetings in our new room in the “Tech” building at our school. When we first began, we started low tech. The first mock up of the car was made of PVC pipe. Then the project progressed to the next level where we designed a possible car from the information we gained from the mock-ups and research.
After a scaled model was formed, students calculated the total cost of the components needed for the car to run. Team members began raising money by presenting our goals and ideas to business leaders from the Baton Rouge area. Now we have made quite a few adjustments since the beginning and have an updated drawing of how the car currently appears with only detailed structural adjustments to the car and the currently under-design new state-of-the-art light weight body.
We are pushing to finish the car by the upcoming summer; even working 7-10 hour days five times a week during Summer 2008. We currently stand with an operating car and are working to acquire the funds necessary to add improvements to the body, solar array and details in electrical wiring. Now we stand poised on the threshold, ready to complete our arduous project. As mentioned before, the only thing holding us back is our desperate need of your funds to finance the rest of the Bulldog Racing Solar Car.
Who We Are
The 2008-2009 BRMHS Solar Car Team is currently made up of nine students from Baton Rouge Magnet High. The team is made up of freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The students designing the car look forward to impressive applications and possible scholarships for college because of their participation on the solar car. All team members will learn skills in drafting, mechanics, and business and will be able to apply this knowledge to real life after graduation.
